AT&T to kill off pre-paid unlimited 3G GoPhone data plans

It seems AT&T has wised up to customers looking for a cheaper alternative to the post-paid unlimited 3G data plans. AT&T has been offering pre-paid customers unlimited 3G data packages with their GoPhone pre-paid plans for some time now. And, with the GoPhone unlimited 3G data packages costing just $20, compared to the $30 that iPhone 3G customers pay for unlimited post-paid 3G data access, AT&T has likely seen a lot of potentially lucrative post-paid data revenue being siphoned off by the company’s pre-paid business.
As such, AT&T is reportedly planning to pull the plug on their pre-paid unlimited 3G GoPhone plans on November 12. AT&T says that the move is simply the end of a trial and that the company is looking into alternative offerings. If AT&T brings back unlimited 3G data access to GoPhone users, it’s a fairly safe bet that AT&T will be hiking their prices so as not to undercut their post-paid unlimited 3G data offerings.
