In scouring the Sunday newspapers, I found an insert for 5 new customised Laptop casings from Dell, which have been patterned-up by an artist called Mike Ming. For our UK readers, that name may cause some amusement due to the usage of the term in current-day language, but nonetheless I persist with my article.

So, I was pondering, as I checked out these new customised case patterns, who is going to buy them? Obviously Dell did their Market Research, but I struck an immediate mental picture of all the case customisation effort that have come and gone on Mobiles – think of the various players who have been involved (I used to work for one of them), and most of the big boys have tried this, with limited success (as far as I understand).

So what will make the Dell Laptop case patterns successful? Well, perhaps the right demographic exists, and perhaps the ‘Halo effect’ of having the Laptops on the site will draw users to look at and buy other things…

At any rate, what do the IntoMobile readers reckon to the case art?

You can go to Dell’s global site here, and then it’s navigation to select and customise your Inspiron Laptop that will let you see the art in detail.
