Surprisingly cheap yet seriously portable laptops are all the rage these days. The super-compact “netbooks” boast tiny form-factors, all manner of wireless connectivity options, and pack a decent performance-punch – it’s no wonder the netbook movement has been catching on.

And it looks like we may have another player throwing their hat into the ring. OLO Computer is apparently looking to follow in the footsteps of CELIO’s RedFly Windows Mobile Companion. The OLO website gives little more than a teaser splash page that shows off the company’s netbook concept. Like CELIO’s RedFly, the OLO netbook would be powered by a mobile phone. Unlike the CELIO RedFly, the OLO concept netbook is expected (if it actually makes it to market) to work with the iPhone / iPhone 3G.

OLO’s concept mockup shows an iPhone nestled along the bottom edge of the keyboard, acting as a trackpad. The iPhone would be running the show with the “netbook” working as little more than a larger display and keyboard for the iPhone.

If OLO makes it to market with a netbook like the one they’re showing off, they might just have a hit on their hands.

  1. Tom says:

I really really really want this.

  2. Ellis says:

That would be brilliant dont get me wrong, it would work with certain days that your out and about ie.

just popping out to town, may go to starbucks – take the iphone.

going on a trip for a few days with my camera and other things – take the shell.

the major problem here though is in the photo it shows the netbook using osx on its screen, but the iphone isnt running osx. even if the iphone was plugged in and extended the size of its own screen im sure it would be difficult to get around all of apples restrictions when it comes to modding the thing
