Those of you who prefer to have their USB ports free like all the time (or have their USB ports reserved for some other things) may opt for ExpressCard or PCMCIA-based 3G modems. However, since all the latest 3G modems are either USB or ExpressCard based, users with older laptops that only support PCMCIA cards are left out. Novatel knows that, hence their latest EX720 EV-DO ExpressCard comes with PCMCIA adapter. Apparently this adapter alone would run you $50, so it’s a good deal, especially when you consider the Sprint (NYSE: S) Novatel EX720 EV-DO ExpressCard modem costs $70 after rebate.

We at IntoMobile keep prefering USB modems. It’s way more convenient…
