Mocana NanoPhone Security Suite for the Android Mobile Platform

By James Falconer on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 AM PST In Android, Security

I’ve started to hear rumblings that some developers are having some major issues regarding Android and security. While developers are digging into Android, they want to be sure that their apps are safe and secure. To that end, I just received a note in my inbox regarding a possible solution for developers.

Mocana, a provider of embedded security solutions for many devices has launched their new NanoPhone Suite for Android. To quote the email I received:

NanoPhone can be developed at the silicon level of future Android handsets and provides Android developers with key security tools like VPN capability, firewall, and certificate authentication.  Developers will be able to build off of NanoPhone, incorporating some or all of NanoPhone’s features into their applications. This will help developers save time, spending more of it on important things like cool, innovative apps. Mocana hopes that the security offered in NanoPhone will help to encourage enterprise adoption of Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s mobile OS.

The NanoPhone Suite is aimed at providing developers with the functionality to quickly and easily build-in some key and essential security components including:

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) clients to secure data communications between the device and corporate network
  • Voice, video and data encryption (in transit and at rest) with FIPS-validated crypto
  • Comprehensive malware and virus protection with no false positives
  • A higher performance, more secure browser for ecommerce and online banking applications;
  • Scalable and secure firmware updating and secure boot capabilities
  • Robust certificate handling features to authenticate devices, network services and individuals to each other.

Note: Thanks Andrew for the tip!
