That’s right. You read it right. No smoke and mirros here.

First Best Buy goes ahead and starts pushing the iPhone, then this. Walmart will be selling the T-Mobile G1 in their own stores according to the folks at Engadget Mobile. In fact, 550 Walmart stores across the US will begin selling them for only $148.88 starting tomorrow (Oct. 29).

Already purchased your G1? Sorry dude/dudette, looks like you paid the price for jumping on the bandwagon too early. The lower price at Walmart will be a savings of $31.11 per unit. Crazy. Serves you right for going to a traditional T-Mobile store anyways, right? :P

According to Walmart spokesperson Melissa O’Brien, the new and upgrade-eligible price for a Walmart-sourced G1 will be $148.88 with a 2-year agreement. If you’ve been on the fence about purchasing a G1, looks like Walmart is the place to go if you want to save a few bucks.
