Verizon stops the Samsung Glyde sales due to “an issue”?

It seems Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless has problems with the Samsung Glyde. According to Engadget, the Big Red is in the midst of pulling off the device from the store shelves. Furthermore, they’re not allowing customers to get their Glyde back if they send one in for service — instead, customers are offered the LG enV2 as a replacement.
Apparently, this information was received in a Verizon customer service call center and it’s not clear when (or if) corporate and non-Verizon stores will receive the same story. Are Verizon and Samsung preparing a new firmware for the Glyde or there are some serious problems with the QWERTY touchscreen phone? It’s hard to tell at this stage, but we’ll certainly keep our eyes wide open.
In the meantime, if anyone of you guys and gals have had problems with the Glyde, we’re eager to hear what do you think about this. Have you sent your device to Verizon? What did they say to you?

I’ve recently started having lots of troubles with my Glyde. For one, it crashes a lot when certain websites are brought up on the mobile browser. It’s touchscreen capabilities are less than glamorous after a while, and now I can only use it in speakerphone-mode with the QWERTY keypad slid out in order to hear my telephone calls because otherwise I can’t hear anyone.
Hi,
I bought this phone for my daughter at the end of June.
Within 3 months, she was having problems with the slide mechanism. It finally came completely apart and was in 2 pieces. I took it back to the Verizon store and they claimed we dropped it and, since it wasn’t insured, said we’d have to buy a new one. I was very angry and am glad they are offering replacements. I only hope this will pertain to her phone as well.
The Glyde is the worst phone I’ve ever owned. I’m on my 3rd one already. The first died. The second, the touchscreen didn’t work half the time. And this one is starting to do the same. The screen needs to be pristine to work and even when it is spotless, it still sometimes needs to be rebooted to work.
Verizon has also told me I need to pretty much suck it up.. What a bunch of bull..
I have always been happy with Samsung products – until now. I purchased the Glyde a month ago and HATE it! The charge runs out after a short while and so it is usually in the charging mode which means I don’t have the phone when I need it.
If my hands are cold, the touchscreen won’t work -not helpful when you live in Michigan! I went to return it to the Verizon store on Saturday and they said that they were coming out with new software to “fix the problems” with the phone. They told me if after the new software is loaded, if I don’t like the phone I can still bring it back. I hope they follow through…
Phone sucks donkey @@@@. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. Touch screens about as responsive as aids. Mine wont hold a charge and its only been a month..
the phone sucks big time. Me and my boyfriend both bought it at the same time and it is driving us crazy, it is not usable, the touch screen is pushing on other buttons, not the ones you push on, so you end up calling people you don’t mean to call from your list. Terrible!
I have had nothing but problems with my samsung glyde since the first day. I touch a button and it goes to the next button. I push another button and it shows I touched but nothign happens. It is the worst phone on the market. I recently spoke to a verizon salesman and he told me that a new program for the glyde was being sent to stores next week. If you bring your phone in they will reprogram it for you and it should take care of the problems. If that doesnt work I will throw it under a bus
it pretty much sucks. i got it for my birthday and its only been 1 MONTH and it is al ready spazzing out every second. i have to restart it at least 5 times a day, and it always it clicking back when im not even toughing the phone!!! i want to shove it up a gorillas ass right about now.
The Glyde sucks. I’ve had it for a month and little red dots keep appearing on my screen and i have no idea what they are. Whenever i try and ccalll someone it calls a completely different person and the touch never works on texting. i have to spend 3 minutes tapping the screen trying to get it to work. they should take it off the market, it wasnt worth the $200, or my time. Samsung really needs to improve the quality of their phones, their customers shouldnt be the ones who have to pay
the glyde sucks! Worst decision I ever made. Just got a new one TODAY and already messing up.
I got a Glyde at the end of July and at first i loved it but i’ve definatley changed my mind. Lately it’s started freezing and the majority of the time the touchscreen doesnt work, so i plan to bring it to verizon soon to see if i can get it replaced. Hopefully they won’t give me any trouble like they did when my chocolate broke!
Terrible phone, my touchscreen is absolutely rediculous. Most of the time, wherever i touch on the screen, it registers at the very bottom right corner. Then i have to reboot about three times before it will work for a few minutes. a Verizon rep from a store in madison wi said to come in and they would take care of it(the store is an hour away). I got there and they said i had to wait because they didn’t have the upgrade yet. Not happy at all.
I had good experiences in the past with samsung phones, but not this time. The battery life is terrible, the touch-screen pretty much just does what it wants. I am regularly unable to even use the damn thing. The screen will lock up, and flash through the menus by itself. I have put in on the table, backed away, and watched it cycle through menus and even start calling people on its own. Its really not fun at all to have your phone randomly call people you haven’t spoken to in years. Anyway, I’m glad its been discontinued as its majorly defective. I’m going tomorrow to the store and getting a replacement, hopefully I won’t have to raise all hell if they try and give me another Glyde.
You guys are all a bunch of whiners the phone is great
The glyde sucks!!! i liked it at first then it started screwing up…First it started freezeing then it would have lines come up on the screen and even sometimes the screen goes white and you have to reboot it, then to top it all off it doesn’t even charge anymore. I called verizon today and there sending me a new one hopefully this one works if not into verizons ass it goes.
I got it back in august and at first it was ALRIGHT, but it wore out really quick and the touchscreen was terrible. it didn’t work around the corners, and like when you would touch the top, it’d select something at the bottom.
I sent it in to verizon on a 30 day warrenty, and i got the dare instead and just paid the difference.
the dare is prettty goood for texting, not as good as an actual keyboard though.
This is the worse phone I’ve ever had!!! I will never get a touch screen again. This is such a bad phone. It will work just fin for about 5 minutes, then the touch screen messes up. You touch the left side of the screen and it registers the right, touch the middle and it registers the bottom. This make it impossible to send a text. I have to turn it off then on and it will start doing the same thing after 5 minutes. There are times where I don’t even touch anything, but it will register when you touch the back. I’m going to take it in and see if anything can be done, because this is getting old real fast
It looks like Samsung released firmware upgrade and according to this post, the upgrade works. I’ll get my upgrade done tomorrow. Other than somewhat frequent touch screen problems, I like Glyde.
I also have a Verizon Glyde and wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing the same problems. Well it looks like we all have alot of trouble. My first glyde completely died on me within the first 2 weeks. Then this one is barely hanging on because the slide thing always gets stuck and is crooked but it looks like it is about to break in two parts. The phone is always pushing buttons and calling people on my contact list. The lock button unlocks itself all the time and makes phone calls that I didn’t even know was done until after the fact. Alot of times, I can’t do a simple dial to make a phone call b/c my phone wants to do its own thing. It has been the worst phone that I’ve ever had yet. I will be returning this piece of junk to Verizon today..
I agree with you all. This is the worst phone I’ve ever had!! I went in last week and got the firmware upgrade. Doesn’t help at all. I’m at the point where I want to leave Verizon alltogether because of this phone. How come no one has filed a class action lawsuit against Verizon or Samsung yet? No customer should have to go through the agony of trying to get this phone to work. I’m stuck for this phone for 2 more years!!? Is it so much to ask for for atleast a discount on a new WORKING phone!!?
the glyde sucks. the touchscreen sucks and always messes up. It takes me 10 minutes sometimes to do a simple text message because the touchscreen will not allow me to touch the correct buttons. DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!
I totally agree with almost all of you. This phone blows. It takes me like 5 minutes to send one text. I will press something on the left and it would register to the left. I shut off my phone probably 15 times a day cause the phone will either freeze or just start pressing randome buttons all by itself. I can’t stand it. I just got it in September. I wish i would have got the voyager or something. The glyde is a piece of crap forreal.
phone is horrible doesnt work half the time i can’t believe this bs has anyone got the software update ? if so does it work?
i just got the software update and it made the phone look cool and it worked for about 10 minutes, and then went back to the same thing, im gonna go back there soon to see if theres something that can be done
I got the Firmware update it worked for about 2hours it almost makes the phone worse.. PEICE OF CRAP……
I got the glyde for my birthday and i had it for a few months and the touch screen got really messing up and it would click things i didnt touch. I went to verizon they put the new software in it and i lasted a week with it and i took it back and they gave me a new glyde. I have had the second one for about three months and its all starting again. i cant even text people with out it freaking out. I would not suggest you buy the phone bc when you start having problems verizon wont give you a deal for a different phone.
i’ve had mine 4 about 4 months and it’s getting pretty annoying with the touch screen. i had been dying to get this and now it makes me nauseous…
the glyde sucks.
im on my secon one the first one would always click back even though i wasnt pressing back.they told me i needed the upgrade..i got it still did the same thing so im on the 2nd one and its starting to do the same thing.they shouldnt sell this phone.it sucks it probably has like an internal defect.or bug so dont buy it.<33
I am on my third Glyde and it is the worst phone I have ever owned, and to top it all Verizon told me that “they will just keep replacing it” even when I said I would take a much cheaper phone as a replacement, I am losing money in business and thats the reply I got when I informed them of my predicament, I’ll be changing providers when my contract is up, I refuse to pay out of a contract that II thought was good, and will tell anybody that will listen.
its not that bad i guess. i mean it freaks out alot and wont function properly in cold weather but i figure out a way to defeat it. if it starts pressing buttons that u did not intend to press, push open the key pad and start pressing a bunch of random numbers and letters and wait like 3 seconds then press the little home button and it shuld work for a little bit. it works for me but only for like 5 minutes and then it goes back to doing the same thing but atleast it will let me send a txt if i do that.
This is the worst phone I’ve ever owned. I am on my 2nd replacement. The touch screen (if you can even call it that) is completely dysfunctional. It works when it wants to, it rings when it wants to, and I might get a txt message if its in the mood. Not that I can answer back because the touchscreen is so bad its a trial of patience to get it to navigate to the proper screen. I’ve lost business because of this phone. I’ve called Verizon and they refuse to give me a different phone. They want to give me another Glyde which to me is unacceptable. I paid a lot of money for a “good” phone that is nothing but a glorified paperweight. I will be getting rid of my contract ASAP even if I have to pay the cancellation fee.
Well, I wouldn’t recommend this phone; but it isn’t the worst phone out there. Sure it messes up on occasion but it’s all about your level of patience, I suppose.
All of these people that are commenting saying the keyboard’s about to break, or the touch screen isn’t responsive, that’s most likely your own fault. First when I got the glyde I dropped it a few times, and it had some water damage. Thus the touch screen didn’t work and I got agitated with it. So I took it to the store and got a new one. After a month or so, I’d say it’s been a pretty good phone. But that’s only because I’ve taken dearly care of it.
thank you!!! all of these people think that their phones should just magically know what they want it to do, but it just don’t work that way. and, your right, it’s probably their own fault!!!
The Samsung Glyde is the biggest piece of crap and so is Verizon. On the first day, this phone broke down on me. It kept flashing the Verizon sign but wouldn’t turn on properly. After getting the pain in the ass battery cover off, I figured if I removed the battery and put it back in to reboot that would do the trick. HA!! Instead the phone did the same flashing thing making it useless. Of course you still have to pay on your contract too!! I will tell everyone I know NEVER to purchase this useless, irritating phone.
I’ve had similar problems with the touch screen, plus my favorite contacts keep getting completely deleted…I am taking it back and asking to pay the difference for an LG Dare instead! Phone doesn’t even make it through a whole day without needing a charge, I’m not a heavy user, and it’s only 3 months old.
Just got the Glyde replaced by Verizon at a local Verizon store. The touch screen was always buggy, but they won’t replace the phone for that reason alone. When the charging port went out they replaced it.
Hope this one fairs better.
this phone is horrible. the touch screen doesnt work. sometimes it goes crazy going to all this random stuff that i dont even press and then other times i cant press anything! i just want to throw it against a wall. if i was in trouble somewhere and i needed to call someone, i am almost positive i wouldnt be able to because the call button is only on the touch screen which rarely works correctly. badddd phone.
Glyde SUCKS! Enough SAID!
I have a glyde and i personally don’t think it’s all that bad. it’s true that sometimes it goes all screwy, but i do think that you people are overreacting. it’s a phone for god’s sake. it’s not like some miracle device that will do everything you want it to exactly how you want it to…NOTHING can be like that. if you are having problems with it just take a deep breath and be pacient (sorry bad spelling). modern people think that their time is so freaking vaulable and if they take just 5 seconds to do something they get mad. like i said, just calm down!
“It’s not like some miracle device that will do everything you want it to exactly how you want it to.” Hmmm… You ever look up the word “technology” in the dictionary? We never wanted it to do “everything we wanted” just what it was intended to do atleast.
I am on my Second glyde. i got my first one the first few weeks after it came out, i had a few problems with it such as, it restarting on me sometimes when sending a text message, and pressing the opposite button.
I purchased my second glyde about 3 weeks ago, and do not have as many problems as before. But, it will still occasionally restart on me when sending a text.
though, it is a phone. Dont expect it to be perfect!
all technology has its bugs!
but i also do not recommend the phone to other buyers.
You guys are nuts saying that it’s the “end-users fault?” “Be patient” blah blah blah. Are you kidding me? How many people are satisified with the phone vs. dissapointed with it? Like 3 to a million? I’m on my 3rd phone. Verizon refuses to give me a working phone under warranty. If being patient means half an hour to be able to access my contacts, make a call, or text, how’s that any piece of mind? What does that have to do with me overreacting or being overly impatient? Bottom line: Samsung made a crappy phone. Verizon has crappy service for giving the users the run-around.
I guess the customers are always wrong. We’re all about of idiots that don’t know what we’re talking about. We all need to calm down and relax- all 80,000 of us. -_-
I was wrong this phone sucks!
This phone sucks so bad, it takes me like 10 minutes to send a txt message and when i txt my friends and they txt back i cant txt for another 10 mins and its imbarrasing, and you see all those stupid verizon commercials telling their the best my previous phone was good but for selling crap like glyde i feel like protesting to those idiots
OMG! i cant tell you how much this phone does not work for me. I use it as a house phone and its actually dangerous, considering i cant call out on it half the time or text. god forbid i was in a real emergency with that being my only way of help. i told all this to the verizon people and not one of them cared. they are all money hungry. obviously i paid good money for the damn phone but yet they want me to pay another 200 dollars for a brand new one because apparently my phone is the only one that does this!!!! well after reading all of these entries i see im definatley not the only one complaining.
Wow you all need to get your phone switched out for the “refresh” version of the samsung glyde. I have had mine for about 3 weeks. I love this phone. I haven’t had one problem with mine. I love the touch screen I can use my finger, fingernail, pen… The refresh version doesn’t have that weird annoying blue box that I saw on the older version. Text messaging is great etc etc etc. I would reccommend replacing for the one that has been fix. Good luck!
I just got a new one with a new mainboard schematic (supposedly). I have had it for over a month now and not 1 problem. In fact, I feel good about my purchase now. I had the BI29 firmware on my last one. I have had 3 in all and this last one (s/w v. BK14, h/w v. u940.11) has me convinced that a small QWERTY phone is awesome to have. I have even got used to the small buttons. This coming from a guy who had to recently special order a ring for his fat fingers. I would like to know what other people’s software and hardware configuration was to see if the mainboard story is true. The Verizon people were cool about the exchange. The manager tried the “have you tried to change the touchscreen sensitivity” move on me and I gave him the glare that says,” What do you think?” After that, it was light-hearted banter and a new phone.
I got the glyde in october and since then I have had two replacement glydes. Which is a total of 3 phones! Verizon just told me that they would replace the phone because it was still under warranty. But now i am on my third phone, and this one is starting to act crazy too, and it even has the new software. I am tired of having to get brand new phones every 3 months. I want a different phone but they wont let me have one because i am under contract. I think they should make an exception for us glyde users because this phone is just ridiculous.
Just you wait and see that you will have the same bad experience with the glyde I went through the first time. I took mines to the Verizon store and got mines fixed for free and my touchscreen started working again. And yes I agree of what you said. Some phones solemnly are not perfect at all.
It is difficult to put into publishable words what I think of this phone. Some electronic gadgets irk me; few are downright frustrating; but none has evoked the level of pure hatred that the Glyde has. After a year and a half I was able to buy a new one at discounted prices. My Glyde is now fragmented thanks to the therapy session I just had in the garage with a large hammer. Thanks Samsung!
and inside out…..
