Rocketship Apple: flight continues – iPhone deployed!

apple logo2 Rocketship Apple: flight continues iPhone deployed!Rocketship Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s flight thus far has been largely without incident (see here and here if you are wondering what on earth I am on about…) – and now phase 2 has been deployed! The iPhone 3G has landed at my “moon base”, and having been set up, is now performing VERY nicely!

There have been thousands (I’m sure) of reviews for the device, so I am not going to spend ages talking about how much I love the device (even though I do), but instead just say that for now I am running the iPhone in parallel with my existing device – which is a Series60 device from a certain Finnish vendor!

Why exactly I am doing this is because I’m slightly paranoid – for starters, can the touch-input actually be that good on a device, will key functions like email work well enough? And is the iPhone stable? Well, it would appear the answers are yes, yes, and yes! So it looks like the older device may now be seeing its last days in regular use, the iPhone taking over … next stop, all change please!

Phase 3 of Rocketship Apple is going to involve the most expensive part of the “procurement” process – the new MacBook Pro – I mean, this thing is seriously expensive, but, from MBP experiences that I have had so far, darn good!

What’s going to happen when the Airport Extreme, iPhone and MBP are all put together? Will they play nice, or will I have to separate them and put one or more of them on the ‘naughty step’?! Tune in next time to find out…. :-)

Ben

P.S. I may also make mention next time of my side project to see if I can get a 30GB G4 iPod to behave a little bit like Apple TV… we’ll see! ;-)

  1. Simon Sage says:

Here’s a question: Are you going to jailbreak the iPhone?

  2. Ben Robinson says:

Crumbs no… very little point when it’s playing nice with the O2 network :-)

The PAYG SIM in it is great too, because for £10/month, you get free net access and WiFi for a year!

Given I’ve got a stonking deal on my contract O2 SIM, and negotiating to get an even better deal, I’m going to run them both in parallel!

    Niiiiiiice.

    Ben
