By Will Park on Monday, November 3rd, 2008 at 4:13 PM PST In Rumors, Samsung, Verizon
Just days after Verizon (NYSE: VZ) halted sales of its Samsung U940 Glyde, citing some mysterious “issues,” Big Red has gone and fixed the apparently critical Samsung Glyde problem.
Engadget Mobile cites a Verizon source as saying that the Verizon Samsung Glyde is due to recieve a software update that should resolve the problems that temporarily took the handset off the shelf. The Samsung U940 Glyde is now back on shelves and can be sold to customers on a new-contract or upgrade basis.

Any Samsung Glyde owners experiencing problems with their handset should keep an eye out for the software update.

I got this phone for my wife in July. Since we bought it the screen do whatever it wants. I went to Verizon, and they uploaded a new
Software to it…
I have to admit that before the scree was 2% functional… now with the new software is from 5 to 8%, we still struggle to push the
buttons that we want to push… sometimes making calls we don’t want to make. I’m going to Verizon today, to see if they do something
about it…
i got the glyde last month and have had some problems but they were all solved when i changed the sensitivity to medium low … also when is the software update going to be avalible for me
I bought a glyde in july and now have problems with my screen doing whatever it wants. I called verizon last night and they told me about the software. When I went into my closest verizon store today they told me the softwarte would be avaiable on nov. 16th.
I’ve never had any problems with my glyde outside of once in awhile where it seems hard to click the right button, but that’s seriously only once a month or so. Hopefully the software fixes that.
I went into a VVW store today and was greeted, as always, by a courteous rep. I told him about my problem and asked if there was anything that Technical Service could do about it. He informed me that there is, in fact, an update coming out for the Gyde on NOVEMBER 15 that is supposed to fix all touch screen problems, call quality, etc. Check with your VZW store to make sure they have this update before you go in. Just thought I’d let you know!
i got my glyde not even a month ago and had a couple prblems with one of the touch screen buttons but it stopped and i was wondering if you were allowed to get the upgrade even if we dont have any problems with our glyde
Wanted to add a little to this phone. When I purchased the glyde I had nothing but issues like many of you. The phone lasted about a month before it would do whatever it wants and by that time I was out of my time frame to return it for a different phone. Just recently everything has been in check and working great. On Thurs I got the newest firmware update which helped a lot but still had its issues with hitting keys I wasn’t touching and constantly choosing the back key when I would be no where near it. Thurs night I went to best buy and bought a universal screen armor which you cut down yourself. I put it on, made sure there were no air bubbles and gave it a shot. I have not had one issue since doing this, it responds 100x better and has yet to get the wrong key. I even sent a full text using the dial pad on the screen to see how it worked and had no issues. Sensitivity is set on Medium and so far so good. Maybe it will help some of you out as well but now I am happy with the phone that almost took a swim several times. If you do buy the screen film you need to cut down from BB, cut at mark 23 and at mark 11 and its a perfect fit. Hope this helps
I got this phone in June or July and I just did my third softwear update and it was no help. i have to shut my phone off every three hours to just have it do anything. my touch screen often goes out and i cant do anything but turn it off. Now, i got the new softwear update and now it shuts of randomly.
I got the update for the Glyde and it still does not work correctly. There is no way I am keeping this phone and I will never get another Samsung phone again.
well i think this mobile is a very good mobile and i hope that as soon as it comes to the market i will get it
just got the updated software for my glyde…but my shortcut menu button still keeps sticking…is anyone else having this problem? They just replaced my first one for this current glyde that I have. What are the chances of verizon letting me exchange the glyde for a voyager?
this is the 2nd phone now i am on, the 2nd phone has to new upgrade, it worked ok for a week and than back to the same issuses everyone is haveing, i do not think i can trust a 3rd phone. Everyone in my phone list is geting calls when i have not touched a thing, and they and I are tired of this, this was not a cheep phone but it should have been! I would like to know if any of you had a problem with asking for a new diffrent phone all together?
Thanks
Me and my daughter’s glydes are horrible. Last week we had the firmware update. The Glyde still sucked. This week I demanded a replacement, Verizon offered a junky LG as a swap. I went for replacement Glydes. I spoke to a manager and told him how dis-satisfied I was. He told me that I would be able to replace the 2 Glydes if I return the phone 3 times with in 90 days. So I will play the game and bring the 2 replace- ments back next week for the 2nd replacement, then the following week for the 3rd replacement. then finally the 4th time, 5th including the firmware update, then I will be able to choose a new phone. Totally rediculous policy! What a waste of time & $.
Thanks so much, now I know why my cousin hates it, he’s selling it to me so all I will have to do is get the upgrade
I hated this phone. I got the update. Made no difference. I don’t know which is more infuriating — the screen completely freezing up so I can’t do anything at all, or the phone doing what it wants, regardless of what button I’m pushing. The only way out is to turn the phone off and on, reboot it as it were. Not very useful when trying to answer the phone. I had the phone replaced, but this one is even worse than the first one.
the phone is s a lemon right?
So are you saying if we complain about glyde (in store) 3 times within 90days they will give us a new, DIFFERENT phone? If so what phones can you get? I know they are currently selling the glyde for more than the dare, can you “downgrade” to the dare?
I am so sick of my phone, it has actually called 911 in my pocket 2 times.
Well, imagine when you are in an emergency situation and you can’t click on the call button because of the “glitch” {not responding/freezes}.
Imagine when you are in a life threatening situation, thanks to Verizon for selling this defective products to its clients.
Okay. So I am wondering if the first version absoluetely sucks bad. Because I went to youtube and I saw the review for the BI29 or something, which is the second version. And I really don’t like it. I like the first version alot better. So I went to a Verizon store, and he said that the first versions had been recalled. But I still want it. I am thinking that maybe if you can still buy the first version, they will start fixing the touch screen probles, and everything will be fine. So could anyone help me? Opinions? Anything telling me on which one to buy. Thanks.
Nevermind. I like the second version anyway. I still like the first version more though
I absolutely love my Samsung Glyde. My previous phone (still have it too)was also a Samsung (SCH-A930) I actually like all Samsungs products. I had some slight glitches with the first version of firmware, after the getting the upgrade it has been pretty much glitch free. It is a full touch screen so I would always lock the screen before placing in my pocket or a purse to prevent unwanted dialing/answering calls. I repair automobiles for a living and im constantly droping it,(thanks for the body glove case) and getting grease and oil on it. For a touchscreen it takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’. Thanks.
