Okay, sure, the T-Mobile G1 hums along quite nicely with its 3G data connection, but wouldn’t it be nice to share that 3G-love with your laptop?

Of course if would. Enter the first T-Mobile G1 tethering solution!

An Android developer has come out with what is fast becoming the first viable T-Mobile G1 tethering tool that will allow you to use your T-Mobile G1 as a wireless 3G data modem. Admittedly, the G1 tethering solution isn’t as easy as tethering an iPhone 3G, but with a little command line work and Android SDK installing, you’ll be zipping along T-Mobile’s 1700Mhz 3G network on your laptop!

The developer Graham Stewart, notes that this shouldn’t really be considered a legitimate tethering solution because it lacks the ability to use the G1’s 3G data connection outside of web browsing (true tethering solutions allow you to use a wireless data connection with any application - email, IM, web browsing, etc.). Still, we have to give it up to Stewart for putting his skills to good use and bringing G1 road-warriors a tethering solution!

Find instructions for tethering your T-Mobile G1’s 3G data connection to your laptop here. Be warned, you’ll have to be comfortable with the Android SDK and a bit of command line work to pull this off.
