Just a hint for everyone, Rather than reset the phone when it crashes. Press the off button and go to "remove memory card" in the options. It'll automatically close all applications.

It's ALOT quicker than a pulling the battery.

I have had my E71 for about a month now, and it has worked perfectly and I have been very happy. Well, except the camera is no where near the quality of N95.
That is besides the point now, for some reason it started crashing today, by turning off every time i try to call, or answer a call!
Has anybody had this problem and is there a solution?
Thanks,
Tim

Had similar problems in my first month with the E71.
Have now updated it to the new firmware and for about three weeks not one single crash anymore. Good phone!

Easy peezy. Crashing the E71 is an art form best practised by those with nails capable of prising open the battery bay.

1) The latest version of Google Maps will kill an E71 on 3UK if whilst moving and with GPS on you lose the cell signal. Guaranteed battery puller that one, repeatable and experience by at least two other E71ers I know.

2) Shozu trying to Geotag photo's whilst running Nokia Maps with turn by turn directions on. Again a battery puller.

3) Nokia Location Tagger starting up on freshly rebooted E71 when there is no GPS or cell signal. Again a full lockup only helped by a battery pull.

Anyone see the theme there. Yup the GPS is a little bit of a common component in my woes.

BUT - does this mean I love the E71 less: NOPE. I still stand by the little marvel of multi-tasking loveliness for my day to day mobile comms even to the point of rarely taking out my netbook anymore for daytrips.

Yeah, mine crashed every time I load the Maps application. I think it must be something to do with that app. It's painful to have to get at the battery and remove it (why is there no RESET button?)

It does get unresponsive for some other apps like Gmail or whatever but overall it's good. I'm liking it.

My crashed sometime during the usage of the address book. It really needs a firmware update to fix this.

@Tom: I don't believe iphone supports sending MMS, but their are 3rd party applications that are trying to fill that gap: http://gigaom.com/2008/09/14/iphone-gets-mms/

Mines crashed every now and then but nothing compared to my WM devices.

There is one bug that seems to be repeatable, and thats if im dl a podcast over wifi whislt listen to one over btstereo. The bt stack will crash often and i have to reboot the phone.

Hopefully, the update will fix the small bugs the E71 has and overall i love this thing, its simply awsome.

i bought one 1 month ago... it crashed many times, one time when i was searching in the contact list (for example i search for Mohammad so i do write "Moh" and then i go down untill i before i find the name i want, and it automatically closes the contact list), the most annoying crash happens "sometimes" when someone is calling and i answer, it restarts itself after a few seconds of hanging while the call counter works"

i can say about this phone: it is a good one, but it has some software bugs that irritates me, i'm waiting for a software update

This happened to me today too. Can't remember what application it was, but realised that I had opened the wrong app and tried to close it quickly again. The home screen went all funny with calendar items overlapping and no response from any keys. I switched the phone off and on again and the problem was still there. I switched off the phone a second time and removed the battery. That seemed to sort everything out and it was back to plain sailing after that.

I love my E71, but after a month, I am still not totally comfortable with the predictive text feature. I sometimes find it counter-intuitive. I also find it a huge hassle that the FM radio doesn't work without the earbuds. I have a Parrot bluetooth carkit and I refuse to carry the earbuds around with me only for the radio. Also, the battery is not as amazing as everyone says. I still can't get through a second day on the same charge. I therefore have to charge it every night. On weekends, though, it'll easily make it through.
