Atlanta-area Salvation Army is introducing a program to let donors give five bucks to the charitable organization via SMS. Beginning in two weeks, mobile users in the Atlanta area can text message “TSA” (which is an acronym of “The Salvation Army”) to 90999 and a $5 donation will be added to their phone bill.
Salvation Army will promote its campaign on signs alongside the familiar shiny red kettles outside 297 locations in the 13-county metro Atlanta region.
Last year, the charitable organization raised $1.4 million in Atlanta between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2007. This year’s goal is $1.6 million, and for the next year they hope to expand the program nationally.
