The most amusing way you have ever seen a Mobile damaged

Ok so this is just a little bit of fun – I am NOT suggesting you go out there and find innovative ways to destroy your Mobile device…!

A long time ago, could even be 10 years now, I witnessed a great comedy mishap that ended up in what was at the time, a very much desired Mobile device getting absolutely smashed. I’d like to share that with you, in the hope that you (the collective ‘you’, that is!) have some amusing anecdotes you might like to share back…

A colleague of mine, working at a Mobile Operator (who shall remain nameless), had just taken delivery of one of the first Nokia 61xx series devices that anyone had seen. He exited his car in the car park with the device in his right hand, and proceeded to shut the car door with his left hand. At this point, for reasons unknown (perhaps his choice of footwear), he received a substantial static shock from the car door, which saw him twitch so violently with his right arm that he launched the device up in the air. The trajectory was such that a 10-15ft distance was achieved horizontally. On becoming intimately acquainted with the car park surface, the phone did ‘dissipate’ in to several pieces, smashing beyond repair. This however did not stop the colleague in question from trying to tape it back together. Amusing, I’m sure you’ll agree, but I am betting not the funniest that you may have been happen!

Hit me back with your anecdotes, for the IntoMobile readership to read and chuckle over :-)

About The Author

Ben Robinson

Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

Phone was in a persistant vegetative state for 3 months, but happily it awoke after that, and except for some screen staining + wierd speaker sound, is in great shape…

My old Samsung flip phone, one of the first camera phones on the US market though I forget the model, fell out of my pocket while jumping over a fence the week after I bought it. Landed right under my foot on the way down. *crunch*

Remarkably it still worked despite the fact that the screen was only attached by it’s video cable. :)
