Google Maps Mobile ready for enterprise

Google Maps

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) recently released an installation kit to help enterprises roll out Google Maps to their mobile workforce. As far as I’m concerned, Google Maps is a must-have, regardless of whether or not there’s an IT department around to install it for me. For everyday convenience it’s great, but I wonder if it’s up to snuff for those in the transportation industry proper. The last time I talked to an expert on the subject, it sounded like trucks have considerably more limitations on where they can drive, making a customized mapping solution necessary. Plenty of companies run Google services, but this is the first of Google’s mobile apps to make the enterprise jump. We’ll have to stick around to see what’s next – keep an eye on mobile.google.com/enterprise for future releases.
