Orange dropping iPhone 3G to 99 Euros for holidays?

Those Europeans always get the good stuff. Not only do they get to put hands on the HTC Touch HD, our mobile enthusiast friends in France will likely soon be able to buy an iPhone 3G for just €99 ($125)! A new promotional flyer from Orange has been posted by Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) Insider, showing the iPhone 3G 8GB available for less than a hundred euros.

It’s clear that Orange will require their French customer base to sign a two-year contract to get the iPhone 3G 8GB for just €99, but it’s not yet known if customers will have to opt for one of Orange’s more expensive monthly rate plans in order to take advantage of the discounted price.

We’re also hearing that the iPhone 3G will be getting some price-cuts as we head into the holiday shopping season. Price decreases have historically triggered sales bumps, and combined with the gift-buying rush, we could see the iPhone 3G make some additional headway in the global smartphone market.

Also rumored is the iPhone 3G’s price-drop to just $99 in anticipation of the iPhone HD or a larger-capacity iPhone 3G coming down Apple’s product pipeline.

It all sounds quite legit. With slowing cellphone sales around the world, we’re not questioning whether carriers will drop prices on handsets. Rather, we’re left wondering just how much carriers will slash prices.
