Sierra Wireless introduced two new USB HSPA-enabled modems – the Compass 888 and Compass 889, with only difference between the two being in the operating frequency they use. While the former utilizes HSPA on 850, 1900, and 2100 MHz frequency bands, the latter dumps 850 Mhz in favor of 900 Mhz. Other than that, the two modems are identical and both come with a microSD memory card slot and TRU-install software installation technology, which simplifies installation process and allows it to be done directly with the USB modem.

The Compass 888 USB modem is scheduled for commercial shipment in December, while the Compass 889 will be launched in Q1 2009.
