Qualcomm and Amobee deliver Ads in Widgets

Amobee Media Systems and Qualcomm have announced that they are partnering to enable Ads in mobile widgets, distributed by Qualcomm’s Plaza platform. Given the growth in popularity of widgets, this is potentially quite an impactful event for the Mobile Internet.

As we know, widget are (typically) mini-apps that have some kind of stovepipe task – be it say a calculator, clock, or weather. They can often take a data feed from the InterWeb, and this is where the Ads will be delivered and stitched in to the Widget’s operation.

Qualcomm’s Plaza platform has catalogs of mobile widgets for Mobile Operators – the Operators can then deliver personalized, connected, services to end-users on lots of devices. By integrating Ads from Amobee, Ad inventory can be pushed in to appropriate widgets, and measurement of success taken.

Hmm, what say we to this? I’ve not downloaded a ton of widgets to any of my devices yet (perhaps I need to get some Samsung and G1 goodness going down….) – but I’m not sure I’d want Ads populating them – having said that, both Qualcomm and Amobee are leaders in their respective areas, so I’d expect a good end-user experience – now where can I find me some Mobile Widgets….? :-)
