TD-SCDMA Handset from Nokia Due Before End of ‘09

China’s proprietary 3G wireless infrastructure, TD-SCDMA, is a little closed-off from the rest of the mobile world, but Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s still willing to show some love. A handset packing the S60 OS and TD-SCDMA support should be available before the end of 2009, with more likely to follow. Nokia had long ago assured folks that they would be supporting TD-SCDMA, but it’s only now that we’re seeing them put their money where their mouth is. The technology is still taking some time to gain traction, but Samsung has already squeezed out one handset, and ZTE launched one helluva looker in September, and now with the world’s biggest phone manufacturer stepping into the world’s biggest singular mobile market, there’s going to be some serious money to be made.
