Well, for folks running Android on the G1, there’s a new open source music player to enjoy. It’s called Banshee, and the player makes it easy to manage and listen to your favorite tunes on your G1.

Banshee 1.4 features automatic library synchronization and can also handle device playlists. The app works with iPods, MTP players and USB storage devices… and the T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) G1 right out of the box. Using Banshee, you can even import music purchased from the Amazon MP3 store.

Aaron Bockover, the lead developer on Banshee has noted that using Banshee and the G1 together provides the same kind of multimedia management experience available on the iPhone.

“Because the Android platform is open source, I was able to easily figure out optimal ways of implementing Android/G1 support…For instance, I was unsure what the maximum cover art size should be on the device, so I just read the source. It was a nice for once to not have to reverse engineer or guess!”

Gotta love open source. Can’t wait for version 1.5 to see what changes and improvements have been implemented. Until then, we should probably put 1.4 through the ringer. For more information and to download, visit the Banshee Project.

  4. John says:

@David. Wow..are you retarded or what. Banshee is a music player much like iTunes that manages the music on the device. You install it on your Linux operating system NOT on your G1. Not at anytime does the article say that Banshee works ON the G1. It does say, “…and the player makes it easy to manage and listen to your favorite tunes on your G1″.

So before you go running your mouth and show everyone what an idiot you are, why don’t you learn to read.
