Sciphone Dream G2 Poised to Disappoint

Will wrote a great post about the Sciphone Dream G2 the other day… and I simply had to add my comments. This device looks stunningly brutal.
I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but it’s kind of fun to do when looking at new devices isn’t it? The thing that really gets in my craw about the Sciphone Dream G2 (if that is its real name!) is the lack of a keyboard. You heard me right… No keyboard. As you can see from the image, there are only a few buttons on the front of the device, and as far as I’ve seen this bad-boy isn’t a slider. Only other option here is that a touchscreen interface has been built-in for your keyboarding needs, but as far as I’m aware the Android OS doesn’t support on-screen virtual keyboards at this point. Good luck punching out that urgent email. Perhaps the device comes with a ‘thought sensor’ that plugs directly into your brain.
Besides its obvious shortcomings, the device looks to be built to a very low standard. The build quality, fit & finish and materials used look far from quality. In fact, from some of the images I’ve seen, it sort of reminded me of a 3rd grade science fair project I did. Memories.
Key features of the Sciphone Dream G2:
- EDGE
- WiFi
- Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP
- 4 MP with autofocus
- 50MB internal memory
- microSD/SDHC memory card slot
- FM radio
- 2.8-inch 320×240 touchscreen display
Sciphone Dream G2… or Sciphone Nightmare G2? By the rumored launch date of November 28th… we may know the answer. My money is on nightmare.
