UK: Top 10 most-searched for phone in October 2008

So, Hitwise (the leader in online competitive intelligence) have been assessing which are the most searched-for mobile devices – and this is what they came up with:
The iPhone accounted for 5.8% of all mobile phone searches during October, and its popularity helped Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) achieve the accolade of being the most searched for consumer electronics brand in the UK last month. However, the so called ‘iPhone killers’ are tracking closely behind, with the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N96, Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) C905 and Samsung Omnia all increasing their share of searches in October. The popularity of Nokia’s N96, combined with the Finnish giant’s large back catalogue of phones, enabled the company to maintain its standing as the most popular mobile phone brand online, and 2nd overall brand behind Apple.
Mobile phones were also the most searched for consumer electronic products – so that puts the iPhone at the top of the top! In terms of hype it doesn’t surprise me one bit, though Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) have been having a good go with the Storm recently! It would be REALLY interesting to see how searches converted to sales, but that would probably require an algorithm so complicated that only uber-boffins could understand it!
