HTC Touch Pro lands on Verizon Wireless!

The HTC Touch Pro has stepped up to the plate with a Windows Mobile-powered feature set that would have Windows Mobile fans chomping at the bit for a chance to own the baddest Windows Mobile QWERTY slider on the market. With carrier-branded versions of the HTC Touch Pro shipping globally, the HTC Touch Pro has become the de facto Windows Mobile smartphone flagship from HTC.
So, it’s exciting to see the last of the “Big Three” US wireless carriers picking up the HTC Touch Pro. The Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Touch Pro is now live. Just like its GSM and CDMA forebears on AT&T (NYSE: T) and Sprint (NYSE: S)’s network, the Verizon HTC Touch Pro sports a full-VGA touchscreen (resistive, pressure sensitive touchscreen), 3.2 megapixel camera (with flash and autofocus), 3G (EVDO Rev. A), GPS, WiFi, and that slide-out QWERTY keyboard – all powered by the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS wrapped in HTC’s TouchFLO 3D UI.
But, in a not-too-unexpected move from Big Red, Verizon is charging a good $50 more than AT&T for the Verizon-branded HTC Touch Pro. A new, two-year contract will help get the price of the Verizon Touch Pro down to $349.99 ($419.99 less a $70 discount).

One thing this article has missed is that Verizon has reduced the memory given this device to 128MB rather than give the 288MB that other providers give. This will severely limit the number and speed of programs you can run on the device. Oh, and that is after they raised the price… O.o Wow.
That’s not true…it’s a rumor started by a mistake on the Verizon Website. I called and it’s 192mb just like the Sprint’s version.

True and false… It is 192MiB (I was misinformed), but it is not the same as Sprints version. Sprints version has 288MiB (the same amount that HTC’s website claims should be on the Touch Pro http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro/specification.html ). Oh, and look around a bit more and you will find other differences like unlocked GPS on Sprint’s version (Verizon forces you to use their own proprietary program, so no google maps + GPS), the silly Verizon keyboard layout (Up arrow between N and M), etc.
Sorry about spreading Verizon’s misinformation, though. Apparently they wanted us to lower our expectations even further. :/
