iphone Rocketship Apple: docking with Planet Apple imminent!

Yep, that’s me – flying at speed away from the world of Windows, and heading for Planet Apple (NSDQ: AAPL). And yet an exciting development occurred yesterday – the MacBook Pro arrived!

(In case you wonder what on earth I am talking about, click here, here, and here).

Yes, the MacBook Pro 15”, fully-loaded with a STACK of Apple goodness – including big hard disk and lotsa memory – we like! I’ve got to say, it really is a thing of beauty – I don’t know another consumer electronics company that does industrial design like Apple does (interestingly, I also saw a new HP Laptop yesterday, and it clearly looks like they’ve stepped up their game in hardware design – a response to Apple methinks!).

The casing is very well-engineered indeed, and the thing just works – and my oh my – that screen is just incredible – I watched the startup video in awe, and that is something I haven’t done in VERY long time for any product!

So now the MacBook Pro is in play, it’s going to be necessary to port the data from the Windows system over to the MacBook, and get the iPhone playing nicely with it – I can’t wait!

Once Rocketship Apple docks at Planet Apple, I’ll post up a final story about the teething troubles (I’m not expecting many/any now), and what the new Apple experience is like. Again, I really can’t wait to have a system that reliably works, doesn’t hang, and actually tries to assist you, instead of popping up irritating animated paperclips guessing at what I am doing!!

Bring on the Apple :-)

Ben

  1. Ben-

A month ago I was right there with you, then my primary PC bit the dust (laptop needs a new motherboard). My first thought was to go to a mac, but after shopping a bit, I simply can’t stomach paying literally 3-4 times the price for a MacBook Pro as I would for a comparable PC. For 2x the cash I’d consider it…but for 3-4 I may have to buy another PC…

There’s no doubt that Mac’s aren’t for everyone. If you can afford it, that extra markup in price goes a long way when it comes to the finishing touches and detail that Apple puts into their products. Every PC I’ve ever owned has felt like a tool to me, just enough to get by. Ever since I bought my Macbook Pro (from Craigslist, great place to find good deals on slightly used macs) I’ve felt like it’s part of my life. Not only does it feel like it’s a much higher quality product, but it’s so rock-solid that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to have a system crash or exhibit strange behavior.

Mac’s aren’t without their problems, but it’s obvious when you first take it home and learn to use it that Apple has put a lot more thought into their product line than any PC manufacturer. I look at it this way, PC are the General Motors (lot’s of power, little refinement) and Mac’s are the Mercedes (flashy, lot’s of refinement, but a price-tag to go along with it) Which would you rather drive every day?
