There’s no doubt that the T-Mobile G1 is a serious competitor in a crowded smartphone market. With an open-source Android OS powering the smartphone, the G1 is about as flexible and powerful as any other mobile phone. Unless, that is, you want your T-Mobile G1 to animate screen transitions all slippy-slidey like, much like the iPhone.
Well, dear Android fan, your T-Mobile G1 can rock the sleek side-sliding screen transitions with a little application installing and preference changes. Handy Android developer afbcamaro has posted a method on xda-developers that uses an Android development package to enable sliding screen transitions. Hit up the video below to see what animated screen transitions look like on the T-Mobile G1.
Here’s how to make it happen for yourself:
- Fire up the Android Market on the T-Mobile G1 and download/install the APKInstaller application.
- Get a microSD card ready.
- Download Development.APK to your computer. Find the file here.
- Ensure that APKInstaller is installed on your T-Mobile G1.
- Connect your T-Mobile G1 to your computer via USB.
- Mount the G1 in order to access the microSD card.
- Transfer the Development.APK file from your computer to the microSD card root directory (drag the file onto the mounted removable drive).
- Fire up the APKInstaller application from the Applications tray.
- Navigate to the SDcard directory and choose the Development.APK file.
- “Dev Tools” will install
- Open Dev Tools
- Change Window Animation Scale to “1x,” and Transition Animation Scale to “1x” (you can change these settings.
- Enjoy your animated screen transitions!

its much easier if you just download the newer version of DroidSans tweak off the market.
Hello. Does doing all of this void the warranty
Awesome, love the transition animation
Cheers!
Is it just me or is anyone else sick of reading about how to make everything look like the iPhone?
Yeah, no joke. Screw the damn iPhone. Its not that cool people…
this application also has an option to close out apps which makes the g1 much faster in my opinion.
