tmobile g1 uk1 Roaming Now Disabled By Default on UK G1sRemember that post from earlier in the week where I reported the T-Mobile G1 had issues with internet connectivity… namely, it couldn’t be turned off, therefore when traveling abroad you’d rack up insane roaming charges!? If you don’t recall, you can read about it here.

To go on… customers in the UK can breathe easy, especially if they’re thinking of picking up a G1. All new models of the phone sold in the UK will have roaming disabled by default. If a user wants to enable it, a warning message will pop up, showing the user that there will be additional costs. Groovy. Now if only T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) had done the same in the US, right?

For the UK users out there, when roaming is turned off, this will include ALL roaming. So basically, if you don’t want to incur any roaming charges, you will not be able to use the phone. Good grief. If you travel a lot, just leave the thing at home. Or pick up another handset. Do something… Personally I can’t wait for more Android-powered devices to hit the market… it sure seems like there are a lot of ‘wrinkles’ to be worked out of the G1.
