Truphone for iPhone adds 3G into mix

There’s a new version of Truphone for iPhone available that now allows users to take and make free and low-cost calls even when they’re not in a hotspot, using 3G network.
Truphone Anywhere works alongside domestic service providers in 33 countries around the world, but reduces international call costs to as little as 0.03 GBP/$0.06 [UK/rest of the world] per minute.
Truphone’s trick is in the convenience. Whenever an international number is dialled, Truphone Anywhere simply asks whether user wants to make a Truphone call. The user accepts, and the application then routes the call through Internet.
The second new key feature – inbound calling for Truphone on the iPhone – works in all countries. Thanks to the new “presence” feature, iPhone users can see which of their other Truphone-using contacts are online, including contacts who also have Truphone on their iPhone. As a result, users can make free iPhone-to-iPhone Truphone calls.
Of course, all of the original Truphone features are still there… Here’s a link from where you can download Truphone from AppStore. It’s free!

Hi. Thanks for noticing our recent announcement. But I need to point out an error in your post: Truphone for the iPhone does not enable VoIP calls over 3G. Available in 33 countries worldwide (where Truphone has a local ‘point of presence’), Truphone Anywhere works by making a GSM call to that point of presence, from where the call is carried onwards over the internet. There is no 3G element to it.
This makes Truphone Anywhere a great solution for people making mobile calls abroad from their home country.
Thanks,
Tim.
