getjar log GetJar Delivers 10 Million Downloads of Opera Mini

GetJar, the world’s most popular portal for downloading applications and games for non-iPhones, has now hit 10 million downloads of Opera Mini.

Apparently, this is significant for a couple of reasons:

That’s a lot of mobile phone owners who have decided to upgrade the built-in browser on their phone to a more modern browser.

  1. It’s proof that GetJar is good at connecting software developers with their target market.
  2. It’s another indication that mobile applications are part of mainstream consumer technology.
  3. GetJar provides an open environment for over 200,000 application developers and millions of consumers, with over 10,000 unique applications available to anyone with a Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile or Flash Lite-compatible phone.

It’s quite a telling stat – as the PR says, 10m downloads of a browser that surpasses the handset browser means the current browser can’t be that great! Well, good luck to GetJar I say, and carry on the good work!
