I’m not entirely sure how I stumbled across this one, but I thought it was worth a laugh and a look. If you’ve wanted to get your hands on an unlocked G1 handset… Have I got a site for you. UnlockedG1.org has a whole whack-load of unlocked G1 devices ready for purchase. Last I checked there were around 20 devices up for sale, with prices ranging from $217 to $500.

So what’s the deal here? Well, in reality the site simply displays current eBay auctions for G1 auctions. Data is pulled from eBay and in all likelihood an affiliate program is in place to give the site owner some cred and cash for any sales. With that said, it is still a good place to look and see what the going rates are for an unlocked G1 handset. Everything is all there for you in one place.

According to the website, all of the unlocked G1 handsets for sale have all been unlocked properly by T-Mobile. From their website:

…These unlocked Android phones will allow for use with any SIM card on any network. Rather than using software hacks and G1 unlock codes these G1 handsets have been unlocked properly by the carrier T-Mobile.

I’d take those words with a grain of salt. All of the devices up on the site are of course links to eBay auctions, and almost all of the devices appear to be from different sellers. No details are available in the auction that show if or how the devices are unlocked, and by whom the unlocking was done. As always, buyer beware.

If you’re wanting to take a chance and get your unlocked G1 handset groove on… Head on over to UnlockedG1.org for more information… Or go to eBay and start searching.
