Certicom and RIM Butting Legal Heads over Acquisition

Not one to welcome RIM with open arms like others, security firm Certicom is following up on tough talk with threats of legal action opposing a takeover, which BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM)-maker Research in Motion will openly counter. Word has it Certicom is going right to the Ontario Superior Court in order to block RIM from buying them out for $66 million as planned, claiming that they had used confidential information gathered in previously dealings and failed to disclose everything publically. RIM’s not one to take the opposition lightly and is “disappointed that Certicom’s directors are again attempting to keep the decision as to whether to accept RIM’s offer out of Certicom shareholders’ hands.” Certicom contends that they can get a better offer elsewhere, but nobody’s proposed a counteroffer at this point.
