On-Screen Keyboard to Hit Android in January 2009

Talking to most T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) G1 users… they are almost all unanimous that the one thing they wish the device had was an on-screen ‘virtual’ keyboard, a la the iPhone or the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Storm. While the slider form-factor is awesome… I can see it being a pain in the you-know-what having to slide it out for those short, 1 second replies that we all do from time to time. Wouldn’t it be nice if a keyboard just magically appeared on the screen?
Well, the good news today is that Android’s on-screen keyboard is due to make it to the G1 via a software update in late January of next year. Don’t believe me? Check out the video above. Looks great and all… But for me personally, I think I’d wait for one of the many new Android devices to appear in 2009. Looks like it’s going to be a great year for new devices running the Android OS.
