Samsung Working with WiMAX and LTE Chips

HTC was the first manufacturer to make the WiMAX dive, but Samsung isn’t far behind by the sounds of it. Supposedly in an effort to slip out of paying Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) royalties, Samsung is working on including WiMAX and LTE chips from Broadcom (NSDQ: BRCM) and Infineon (NYSE: IFX) in upcoming handsets. Korea already saw a few WiBro devices from Samsung, and since then Samsung has helped Sprint (NYSE: S) build up their WiMAX network in New York, so it’s no surprise to see them continuing to support the next generation wireless format with devices proper. We haven’t heard much from Samsung on LTE though, and since it promises to be a longer-lasting technology, it’s a much bigger deal. Samsung joins both RIM and LG in working on LTE handsets, with plenty of others likely gearing up for the big jump in 2010.
