Verizon: Alltel deal to close on January 9th

Verizon will have big news to announce during the CES in Las Vegas. Now that FCC and DoJ have cleared the deal, the carrier is moving forward closing it and expect to do so on Friday, January 9th. As a result, Verizon Wireless will emerge as a single largest wireless carrier in the United States with whooping 78 million customers.

The deal includes paying $5.9 billion for Alltel’s privately held equity, as well as assuming $22.2 billion in debt. In December, Verizon said it had received commitments from eight institutions to provide $17 billion of financing…
