More than a year ago, we wrote about MagnaChip and their AMOLED display solution for high-end handsets. They’re out with something what seems even better. The EA8850 is their new high-end WVGA resolution supported AMOLED driver chip, which should apparently give way to more high resolution handsets in the mobile market.
The EA8850 supports WVGA resolution and at the same time it can also sing along with nHD resolutions, which is used on the Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s 5800 XpressMusic and N97 smartphones. The chip also supports Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s Mobile display digital interface (MDDI) 1.2 technology.
Other features of the MagnaChip EA8850 include support for 16 million colors, automatic brightness control and smart mobile current control.
No exact dates were given, but we’re hoping major handset makers are already on MagnaChip’s list, waiting to grab the EA8850 and integrate it into their [handset maker's] upcoming products. We’ll see…
