Orange France has announced that this just-past holiday shopping season was surprisingly good to the French wireless carrier. Orange reportedly saw a three-fold increase in iPhone 3G sales in December 2008, contrasting with the 70,000 iPhones sold in December 2007.

Holiday sales of the iPhone 3G were proved strong, despite French legal-shuffling that resulted in an injunction stopping Orange from selling carrier-locked iPhone 3G handsets. Unlocked iPhone 3Gs are now available in France and may have helped spread awareness about the iconic handset.
