According to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report, HTC has received orders for at least 8 new handsets slated for 2009 from a number of carriers — including T-Mobile (NYSE: DT), Vodafone (NYSE: VOD), AT&T (NYSE: T), Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless.

According to HTC’s roadmap which we already saw leaked before, the Taiwan-based company will unveil part of its new Windows Mobile-based smartphones during the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Furthermore, the paper claims HTC will also launch more Android-powered models in the second half of 2009.

Upcoming HTC phones for 2009 include Windows Mobile-enabled Saffire, Rhodium, Tungsten, Barium and Topaz, as well as the Android-based Hero. In addition, the handset maker also plans to launch a new UMPC, the Thoth, this year.

As soon as we hear something new, we’ll get back to you, have no doubts about it.

I can’t wait to see and try their new Android smartphones. I’m considering the G1, but I would prefer one without the keyboard (presumably thinner & lighter). The rumored HTC Sapphire might just fit the bill.

Hopefully, they’ll be on the market soon!
