HTC Touch HD coming to Australia’s Telstra

Telstra is bringing HTC’s Windows Mobile 6.1-powered beast, Touch HD, to its portfolio. The WVGA touchscreen-equipped device is ready to sing along the carrier’s fast Next G network.
According to HTC’s release, the smartphone will be available for purchase from February 10th exclusively through Telstra shops and dealers. Price without any contracts signed (RRP) is whooping AU$1499. That’s way too expensive and Telstra knows it. Thus, they are also offering the Touch HD for free on a AU$150 member plan with a repayment option of AU$62.45 per month over two years. That, on the other hand, is a neat offer, considering you’ll get one of the most desirable and most powerful phones today.
Finally, let’s quickly recap the HTC Touch HD’s specs. There’s 3G (HSDPA) radio on board, 3.8-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen, GPS, WiFi, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, standard 3.5mm audio jack, beautiful TouchFLO 3D user interface, and a whole lot more…
That’s sad news. Telstra is known for gauging customers ($150 plan, wtf) and lets not forget that they are using the unpopular 850mhz band. It’s a sad day for Australian consumers when we have to deal with highway robbery like this. The less exclusives Telstra get, the better.
