BBC News is carrying an interesting story on the most complained about things for UK consumers. The story focuses on a report by government-funded advice service Consumer Direct, which lists mobile phone service contracts as being right up there in second place!
To be honest, I can see this one happening – for various reasons, some valid and others not, people in the UK sometimes have real issues with mobile phone service providers and their contracts. One thing I know winds people up is genuine malfunctioning devices, and then being told within the terms of the contract, that you have to send yours away to be fixed!
Inconsistent (or just plain wrong) billing is another one that quite justifiably gets up peoples’ noses – that is of course, if you can understand the bill to start with. I think Mobile phone providers have done a lot to tidy this up in recent years, but remember a time not so long ago where billing went askew …
Or could it be those onerous long contracts – yes, Operators need to recoup the cost of the devices, but signing up to an 18- or 24-month contract is probably something people might not appreciate the implications of at the time i.e. it’s a rather long period to be tied in!
There are many potential gripes that consumers could have I suppose, but there must be a fair few actual gripes for mobile service contracts to end up second, on a top ten for UK consumers! I won’t spoil for you the number #1 spot of most complained-about thing – instead I will suggest you visit BBC News here and have a read for yourself
