UK: Social networking traffic overtakes traffic to adult sites

Apparently… in the UK last year, traffic to social networking sites was higher than it was to porn providers! That’s something I didn’t see coming (no pun intended), that’s for sure! Fascinatingly, 55% of the visitors to the SN sites are women – I wonder what the balance is for visitors to the porn sites? Well, you need at least one hand to operate the mouse when visiting an adult site – but that doesn’t disclude either sex, does it?

Now, the influence of the Mobile device can’t be left out of the equation, as it has leveraged (along with faster data access) a viable channel to access material – given a Mobile is always carried about with oneself, it’s also a lot more convenient if you happen to be needing that fix of voyeurism!

I’d predict over time that more and more access is going to be delivered via Mobile – with it’s in-built payment mechanism (premium SMS is so simple), and growing storage for video content, it surely is going to become the medium of choice…
