Motorola Krave ZN4 passes “Torch” to Motorola Inferno

By Will Park on Saturday, January 31st, 2009 at 5:28 PM PST In Devices, Motorola, Rumors, Verizon

The Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Krave Zn4 is one of the more innovative and impressive handsets to come out of Motorola’s R&D labs in recent memory. With the touch-sensitive translucent flip that gives you finger-friendly access to basic handset functions even when closed, the Motorola Krave ZN4 proves that Motorola can indeed make some interesting hardware. So, what’s next on Motorola’s menu? Meet the Motorola Inferno.

Boy Genius has it on good authority that the Motorola Inferno will succeed the Motorola ZN4 Krave, and continues the pyro-themed codename tradition as the Motorola Inferno “Torch” (the ZN4 Krave was codenamed the “Blaze”).

The Motorola Inferno looks to be holding true to the Krave’s flip-phone form-factor, but we’re not sure what to make of the almost opaque flip. Is Motorola ditching the touch-sensitive, see-through flip idea that made their Krave so unique? Or are these handset mockups just a smidge inaccurate? Either way, the Inferno’s updated styling looks good.

The Krave successor, also known as the Krave 2, will apparently be coming to Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless’s network later this year and should pack upgraded internals. Details on exact specs and pricing aren’t yet available, but you an be sure we’ll bring you all the juicy details as we hear about them.
