New Google Maps Mobile Includes Location-Sharing “Latitude”

By Simon Sage on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009 at 7:23 AM PST In Applications, Social Networking

The latest version of Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps Mobile is now including a cool new feature called Latitude, which lets you share your GPS location with others on their mobile, as well as through the iGoogle widget platform on your desktop. Latitude is tightly linked in with Google Talk and e-mail applications so you can quickly get in touch with people after seeing where they are on the map. Everything is opt-in, so you needn’t worry about ne’er-do-wells learning of your wherabouts. Now, if other services like Twitter and even Facebook could plug into this system, then we would have something truly awesome – but for now, this is a great start. Head to google.com/latitude on either your desktop or mobile browser to get started.
