Handmark Acquires Freerange Mobile RSS Reader

Mobile software retailer Handmark has picked up a new partner: mobile RSS reader Freerange. I had first heard of Freerange when talking about Viigo with someone, who said they preferred Freerange, and after taking a quick look at their software, it was certainly a close race. This, of course, was back when Viigo was solely an RSS reader, but now it seems like Freerange could make the same jump to an all-in-one app with Handmark’s Pocket Express. For BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) in particular, the on-device software retailing which Handmark relies heavily upon may become quickly antiquated, as the Application Storefront is due to land in March. It sounds like both companies have quite a bit to gain from the partnership – it should be interesting to see what they pump out in the coming months.
