India still awaiting 3G…

telecomtiger.com takes an interesting look at the state of network infrastructure in India, in a recent article. Did you know that 3G isn’t deployed there yet? Whilst other markets are deploying 4G, it’s still waiting for 3G – who’d of thought….
Apparently the whole process is going through another review – with spectrum and cost being the headline points that are causing issues. There have been numerous proposed auction dates, however these have all been postponed – which has caused many to wonder if 3G will even get deployed whilst the current Government is in office…
Quite a sad state of affairs methinks – 3G does have major improvements in both capacity (important for a large and growing nation), and also data bandwidth – which might help remote areas in getting connected. We can only hope things sort themselves out within this calendar year…
It’s a really good article on telecomtiger.com, I recommend reading it in full here.

Looks like MTNL has deployed 3G in at least some markets.
