Looks like we were all too quick to blame the Chinese cellphone battery as the culprit responsible for a Chinese man’s death last week. As you’ll probably remember, the man was shopping at a Lenovo store in China when shoppers reported hearing a loud “bang” and seeing the man fall to the ground. It seems that the explosion that severed arteries in the man’s chest and neck weren’t related to a cellphone battery whatsoever, rather, a homemade gun apparently discharged into the man’s chest.
The “imitation firearm with bullets” is presumably the source of the loud bang heard by nearby shoppers at the Lenovo store. It’s also presumed that the bullets hit the man’s cellphone en route to vital arteries, leading to our initial speculation that the cellphone battery had exploded.
We’re not saying third-party batteries from China are 100% safe, but it’s comforting to know that this poor man’s death was by firearm, and not mobile phone.
