Juniper ResearchAccording to a new Juniper Research’s report, the global mobile market for adult content grew by around 36% to an estimated $2.2bn in 2008, driven by streamed subscription services and a burgeoning video chat market.

The report titled “Mobile Adult: Subscriptions, Downloads, Video Chat & Text-Based Services 2008-2013 (Fifth Edition)” found that the adoption of 3G handsets in many European markets had led to migration away from services offering only text and graphics towards video-based services.

The report also noted that service deployment had accelerated both on and off-portal, enabled by a number of full-service products. Among the products Juniper highlights are DisplayBoy’s mobileABC and Cherrysauce, which were honored by Juniper’s Future Mobile Gold and Future Mobile Silver awards, respectively.

Other findings from the Juniper report include:

  • Videochat services will become the largest revenue-generator for mobile adult content by 2013.
  • Western Europe will remain the largest regional market for mobile adult services throughout the forecast period.
  • Revenues from the U.S. remain constrained by operator reluctance to introduce age verification systems.

More information about Juniper’s report is available from their website.
