LG and Microsoft announced an expanded alliance to increase the number of Windows Mobile-powered LG phones. As part of the agreement, LG wowed to make Windows Mobile the primary operating system for its smartphones and to increase both the number of Windows Mobile phones in its portfolio and the total volume of such devices it distributes. As a result, LG will release more than 50 new Windows Mobile phones in the future, 26 in 2012 alone!
The agreement, which follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies on November 3rd of last year, also involves formation of joint teams for research and development, to focus on creating phones built on tight integration between hardware and software. It also details joint marketing efforts to expand the reach of these phones at a range of prices in markets across the globe.
On the similar note, LG’s newly announced GM730 smartphone is going on sale in H1 2009 on Windows Mobile 6.1, while the WinMo 6.5 update/version is coming in the second half of this year.
