Billing Error at Bell Overcharges 100,000 Clients by $500

bel ebill Billing Error at Bell Overcharges 100,000 Clients by $500An anonymous source at Bell’s head office has leaked out some strange billing information. Seems as though their new e-bill system accidentally overcharged around 100,000 clients in Ontario and Quebec. How much did it overcharge? Oh, just a cool $500… Nothing big, you know… whatever :P

From an internal notice sent around at Bell:

“As a result of a system error with the launch of the new e-bill, a message was sent in error to 100,000 One Bill eBill clients in Ontario and Quebec. The error message states that the client has an account balance owing of $500. This is an error message and does not impact the clients actual balance owing. Impacted clients have been sent an e-mail notifying them of the error and have been provided with the correct balance”

Hopefully all of those affected have already received the email explaining the situation. I’m sure there was much freaking out going on for those customers. I have to say I do sympathize with them, as a few months ago I received an $1,200 bill from Rogers (NYSE: RCI) in error. Needless to say I was just a tad P-O’d.

It seems common practice for these companies to make these “errors”. Few years back I used my Rogers phone while roaming in US to call Europe. They charged me over $600 for a single phone call, rate was over $20 per minute. When I inquired about the charges they found the rate they used was wrong and refunded about half the amount but still over $10 a minute is insane.
Just last month I tried browse internet on my old pay-go Rogers phone, I don’t have a data plan, but I just entered WAP settings and it worked, so just for test I opened yahoo.com website, the page loaded very slow, it didn’t even finished loading.
    That test cost me $15.
    I just hate Rogers.
