Qualcomm’s Snapdragon – gonna be big for netbooks…

Crave has a nice article that talks about the advent of Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s uber-chip, Snapdragon. This thing runs at 1GHz, and has support for WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, XGA displays, 12MP camera, and and and )(!) DVB-H – phew, what a list!!

Qualcomm already does pretty nicely out of standard 3G chips, but with this bad boy they’ve gone a step further – the only achilles really is that it can’t handle tonnes of apps running side by side (or multi-tasking as we might call it).

The Snapdragon has already been placed inside Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF)’s TG01 (a handset I am desperately trying to get a review model for), and I am sure we’ll see it inside of both mobile devices and netbooks this year. And it’s really with netbooks where it’s potential rockets even further – since those really demanding (for a mobile phone) tasks suddenly become tasks that are expected as an everyday occurrence with netbook users.

I’m personally pretty excited with what could come this year for netbooks – they have become slightly stale since their stellar inception in to the world of mobile computing only a couple of years ago – so to see a new round of truly tiny ‘puters, with blazing performance, will be great for both industry and consumers alike….! Make it light, but make it fast :-)
