iphonevspre Poll: iPhone 3G or Palm Pre?

With all the mobile world’s eyes fixed on Palm (NSDQ: PALM) and the upcoming Palm Pre, there’s little doubt that the pebble-shaped smartphone is set to compete with the smartphone big-dogs like the iPhone 3G. But, which would you choose?

On the one hand, we have the Palm Pre with its Web OS. We’ve covered the Web OS in depth over the past few months, but the jury is still out as to whether the Web OS has what it takes to match the iPhone OS on usability and “intuitivity.” But, the Palm Pre does have a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that is almost big enough to use comfortably for extended tapping sessions. It also rocks a 3.1-inch capacitance touchscreen with multi-touch controls, 3-megapixel camera, 8GB of storage, an industry-leading CPU based on the new OMAP3 architecture, GPS, WiFi, and a 3G data connection.

On the other hand, we have the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone 3G and its iPhone OS. Until now, the iPhone OS has been considered unrivaled in the “intuitivity” department. Will the Palm Pre’s Web OS fell the mighty iPhone OS? Surely, the iPhone 3G’s 3.5-inch display trumps the Palm Pre’s 3.1 incher. But, both have multi-touch support and both use capacitance technology. The iPhone 3G also sports GPS, WiFi, 3G data connection, and a top-of-the-line CPU. But, with a 16GB variant likely to give way to a 32GB version in the near future, the iPhone 3G will have the upper hand when it comes to on-board storage.

So, which will you choose? Will iPhone 3G loyalists make the jump to the Palm camp? Duke it out in the poll!

And the votes keep speaking for themselves. Remember folks, your vote counts, too!

  1. MobileHead says:

I was a big fan of android before the G1 came out, a real fanboy, but then the Storm was announced. I was totally blown away. But now that the Pre has entered the scene I think I am in love! The only thing that bugs me is that when these products finally get released they never turn out quite as good as you expect. But the Pre is definitely a winner! Go Pre!

  2. AS147 says:

Right size, keyboard and multitasking – just a few of the reasons why Palm is it

Palm Pre is what the next version of the iPhone is going to have to match. The only significant feature it is missing is an SD card slot.

It is a truly wonderful user experience and if ever there was a David and Goliath battle ahead this is it.

The bigger question to ask is who else will the Palm take market share from?

The sole fact that it isn’t restricted the way the iPhone is makes it a no brainier. You’ll be able to do thing on WebOS that Apple will never allow.
The big thing missing is the tens of thousands of Apps already written for the iPhone. WebOS needs developer support to succeed.

  5. Strange poll.. a year old phone which most likely will get a refresh this june, and an unreleased phone which no “reviewers” even have held in their own hands.

  6. buzzard says:

I do not get why they really compare the two. the iPhone is a toy in essence. its designed for music playing and apps for novelty reasons. not that there is anything wrong with that, if that is what you like.

the Pre is designed for work primarily with the play part as an added feature. its designed to organize your life in both work and home.

that is not how the iPhone is designed to work. it is designed to be simple then purchase apps to “customise” the phone for you. a great marketing idea and I am sure bill is making a ton of money off of it. good for him.

I do like the milti tasking of the Pre, that has me sold as I am sure I have ADD and need to do several things at once.

the iPhone is a great phone if that is what you need, I need more then what it has to offer. my 600.00 goes to the Pre (i don’t buy into contracts)

  7. Hyder says:

Its great that Palm is coming up with WEB OS!!!

    Perfect 21 century Phone.

  8. leenix1 says:

iphone is less than a dog and certainly big.
however the pre is pre and yet to be tasted.
as such this comparision stupid and without case or cause
prolly by an biased rotten apple

  9. leenix1 says:

oh and i agree with what buzzard said……..bout the toyphone from rotten apple with stupid usuless apps.

  10. chad says:

Is the Pre mms capable? if so it wins. Not to mention I’m sure the OS is more open than apple’s also

  11. Sam says:

After reseraching on both the devices capability, it appears as if Palm Pre will run a head of iPhone 3G. It’s good to see Pre able to send and receive MMS which is definitely a plus point. Also, Pre has come up with the QWERTY keyboard and cool TouchScreen interface which makes it preferable over the iPhone 3G. On the other side, iPhone 3G has also come up with some features. However, I’m really disappointed with the iPhone 3G camera resolution with just 2 MP without flash. Palm Pre has got 3 MP camera with LED Flash.

  12. Han says:

OF COURSE the Palm Pre has MMS! Just look at the official website: http://sprint.com/palmpre

You don’t even need to Google it. Forget everything Ed Colligan said at CES, the Palm Pre is CLEARLY aimed squarely at the iPhone. Removable battery, physical keyboard, multitasking, everything the iPhone lacks, the Pre has it. Including MMS.

Which is why, out of 1281 votes (not counting mine), 1040 (=81%) want the Pre, FIVE TIMES as many as the iPhone (208=16%).

    Palm’s eternal fanboy (for now),
    Han

Who trusts online polls? Which can be skewed by clearing your cache and voting a 1000 times. Hmmm?… it is obvious that has happened here.

  14. Roseane says:

You are wrong, as iphone most apps is free and not very useful, collecting dust the next day after download, if you use the web directly as the Pre Most or All Apps people need is threre already

  15. mk1311 says:

give the pre a year to mature, then it will beat what the iphone has.

  16. kameko says:

finally, something better than my iphone 3g. i bought into the apple hype and picked up the iphone 3g on release day. can i just say this thing has turned me off of apple products completely? what a load of garbage it is. an app store full of fart apps, crappy games, and novelty crap. the iphone interface is way slower compared to what i see in the palm pre video. it can barely even play an mp3 without slowing another app down. can’t wait for the pre!

  17. John says:

All you iPhone haters keep waiting for the next “iPhone killer” to somehow knock the iPhone off it’s throne. First the htc touch. Then the instinct. Then the G1. Then the storm. Then the omnia. Now the palm pre. I suspect, much like all the others, after an initial bump this phone will go by the wayside and we’ll be on to the next “iPhone killer”.

  18. Thomson says:

Well sorry no one of this are any good when compare with the awsome rock machine the Tube 5800 Xpressmusic!
The Tube blow the others away )

  19. Cquer says:

this has been a big internal struggle. Classic Palm user, but PRE is Sprint based (at last report for 1 year) I also looked at the Sony Xperia the apple of my eye (no pun intended) until I saw the price tag, and Pre has ucerped that fan fare. Here is what it lacks tho still don’t kow if they are deal breakers:
Pre: no video, only 8g on board, no sd slot, can’t sync w/ current palm platform, sprint/CDMA, front facing camera (xperia has this good for vid conference whenon the road)
Iphone: no video, no flash, 2mp camera, no removable batt, no sd card, no cut and paste, mac os, also no front facing camera

  20. i will wait for
iPhone 3G Gold Diamond MJ Edition

  21. mk1311 says:

wait for the new iphone, it will royal ass. i can’t believe you are putting up the pre against a phone thats almost a year old.

  22. John says:

Anybody remember all the copycat “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” shows that came out?? It’s downright embarrassing!! The iPhone is the original….everything else is just a copycat….meow!!!

  23. Jeeves Sobs says:

What makes me laugh is a the Apple fanoys dismissing the Pre because ..IT is not even out yet!!!Then they clamor for the new version of the Iphone that they expect to come out sometime somewhere but hasn’t even been mentioned yet. What assclowns!!

  24. greg says:

The iphone is better in all categories except for the camera. Just see http://www.clashem.com/phones.php?id1=2&id2=1148

  25. greg smarter brother says:

Greg you are quite the idiot!!! Unfortunately most people can read and see the chart is Fukked up. They compare the more expensive Ihone and say it wins because doube the memory.Hey assclown both of the standard ones have 8GB, the Pre weighs all of .06 of an ounce more lol you can’t feel the difference jerk. The Pre is slightly thicker but smaller then the iphone and fit in a pocket better, you or whoever put the info inverted the measurements.Thenn you say Iphone wins im 2 other castegories you do not even know the Pre’s stats in.VERY VERY Misleading and You and whoever wrote that up are a LIAR. Palm wins that chart based on the ony side by side that is different, the camera..Palms blows Apples out of the water, but I am sure Steve would let you blow him,he’s not called Jobs for nothing..blow Jobs =)
