LG unveils LG Renoir 8GB Black

Touchscreen? Check. High-end camera? Check. Loads of on-board storage? Not so much.

The LG KC910 Renoir launched late last year as the 8-megapixel cameraphone to rule them all. LG has been locked in a fierce battle for cameraphone supremacy with the likes of Samsung, Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) and Nokia (NYSE: NOK) in recent months, and we can’t see LG backing away anytime soon. With 3-inch touchscreen, an 8-megapixel camera (120 FPS video recording, Schneider-Kreuznach lens, Xenon flash, auto and manual focus, up to ISO 1600, image stabilization, Face Tracking, Smile Shot and blink detection), WiFi, GPS, and a 3G data connection, the LG Renoir is about as good as it gets in the high-end shooter-phone segment.

Unfortunately, the LG KC910 Renoir lacks any appreciable on-board storage. Sure, there’s a good 100MB worth of flash memory space on the Renoir, but what kind of 8-megapixel camera would be satisfied with just 100MB of native storage?

To that end, LG has just unveiled their LG Renoir 8GB Black as a mid-cycle refresher to the original LG Renoir. The LG Renoir 8GB is, well, Black, and sports, uh, 8GB of on-board storage. You can expect the rest of the LG Renoir 8GB’s feature-set to pretty much match the original Renoir spec-for-spec.

Pricing and availability aren’t yet known, but you can bet on the LG Renoir 8GB hitting market with a premium price-tag.
