So, does Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s bridge to Windows Mobile 7, known as Windows Mobil5 6.5, have what it takes to compete with the arguably more appealing mobile platforms out there? With its refreshed UI and that finger-friendly honeycomb launcher, Windows Mobile will be the best Windows Mobile to date, that much is certain. But, we’re going to be looking to third-party UI overlays like the HTC TouchFLO 3D UI and the Acer Shell UI to hide WinMo 6.5’s more homely aesthetic.
Windows Mobile 6.5 may not be the touch-friendly OS update that we were looking forward to, but at least it sports a revamped web browser built on the same code that runs the desktop version of Internet Explorer 6. The new WinMo 6.5 web browser, aptly named Internet Explorer Mobile 6, supports all kinds of full-HTML browsing, Flash and javascript functionality. Zooming and panning are now a simple matter of dragging the slider to your liking, while the “breadcrumb” feature shows you just where you are on a webpage.
The video demonstration shows Internet Explorer Mobile 6 running on an HTC Touch HD flashed with the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM circulating the interwebs.
